Books For You | Days of My China Dragon | Chandrahas Choudhury

Editor | Fiction

Chandrahas Choudhury’s latest novel, Days of My China Dragon is a medley of short stories about life and food as seen from behind the counter of a restaurant in Mumbai.

The book’s lead character, Jigar, makes a shift to Chinese cuisine at his family-owned restaurant. As losses mount and the ‘China Dragon’ totters, Jigar realises that a restaurant is more than just about food, it’s the greatest of life’s theatres and the small warming pleasures of the parade of faces and the inter-play of tastes and temperaments are always fascinating to observe.

Pushpesh Pant, author of India: The Cookbook, said: “The world of eating is about so much more than just food that it requires great fiction to present it in its true colours. Through these stories of a Chinese restaurant in Bombay, Days of My China Dragon offers nothing less than a magical meditation on the human condition. I have not enjoyed reading something as hilarious and moving since GV Desani’s All About H Hatterr.”

Days of My China Dragon (Published by Simon & Schuster, Price Rs 399) is an entertaining read.
